Treatex UV Oil
Treatex UV Oil
Treatex UV Oil is our next generation clear UV protective finish, offering excellent protection against the bleaching effect of the suns Ultra Violet rays. It penetrates deeply into timber surfaces and, in a similar way to bark, attaches to the wood capillaries providing protection against extreme climate conditions.
Manufactured on a base of refined natural oils such as soybean and sunflower oil and waxes, Treatex UV Oil is designed for use on most vertical timbers and applications (excluding horizontal surfaces such as decking and walkways) and can be used over Treatex Exterior Oils and Classic Colour Collection. Treatex UV Oil is the ideal finish for cladding, doors, windows and other exterior joinery.
Preparation
Treatex UV Oil works best on unfinished timbers. Previous finishes which stop UV Oil penetrating into the timbers (e.g. paints and other ‘closed’ finishes) must be fully removed prior to application. Previous porous finishes should be lightly sanded to 120 grit before over coating. When over coating a previously finished surface, a trial application is essential. Flaking or peeling finishes must be fully removed prior to application. Ensure the timber is dry and free from possible contaminates e.g. algae, grease, dirt, dust etc. We advise that when using Treatex UV Oil, sufficient product is purchased to complete the whole project and when more than one tin is required it is advisable to mix them together before use. The timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the ambient temperature must be between 8oc and 25oc during application and drying. We strongly recommend a trial application prior to starting the project.
Application
Stir tins thoroughly, before and during use. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply Treatex UV Oil in the same direction as the wood grain. Pay particular attention to the end grain, where you should apply liberally. If possible, coat all sides of the timber at least once. After approximately 12 hours the first coat can be overcoated. Apply with a brush or roller a second coat of Treatex UV Oil, and leave for approximately 12-24 hours to fully dry.
